Prelaz Črnivec - Kranjska reber

Access to the starting point:
On 02. 11. 2007 I went to Kranjska Ribera from the route of Kamnik. I drove along the bypass road past Kamnik and before the end of Kamnik there is a turn off the main road to the left and there is a sign for the route KAMNIŠKA BISTRICA, VELIKA PLANINA. Then drive 600 metres and you will come to a roundabout where you turn right for the route KAMNIŠKA BISTRICA, VELIKA PLANINA, GORNJI GRAD. Follow this road for 15 kilometres and you will reach the CRNIVEC pass, where you will see a large and beautifully decorated guesthouse building on your right, as well as a gravel parking area.

Path description:
From the parking lot at the CRNIVEC pass, cross the road and into the forest, where you will see two mountain direction signs. One says Veliki Rogač, Lepenatka, Vrh Kašne mountain pasture (my destination) and the other Pl. Ravni, Pl. Meadow, Dom na Menini mountain pasture. Here go left uphill. You will see the mountain markings on the tree just behind the sign and so on up the hill just follow the markings, which are very numerous and you cannot get lost until you get to the top. In the book Kamniško-Savinjske Alpe by Andrej Stritar, it says that the trail is poorly marked, but this was no longer valid when I visited.

On the way up, you will cross a macadam forest road three times. I crossed it the first time after 15 minutes of walking, between the first and second crossing I walked for 10 minutes and between the second and third crossing I walked for just over 5 minutes. From the third crossing of the forest road to the top, it then took me 35 minutes.

The path passes through spruce forest for most of the way and is very beautiful and not steep, but before the summit you meet first a mountain beech forest and then a meadow at the end. From the starting point at Črnivec, I walked continuously, taking 1 hour and 5 minutes. At the top, I was very pleasantly surprised by a small lake, the likes of which I have seen on Pohorje. There are a few more such lakes to be seen on the descent from the summit to the shepherd's hut. In addition, you can see all the highest peaks of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps from Kranjska Reba. To the NE you can see Rogatec and Lepenatka, to the NW Veliko mountain pasture, Grintovec, Skuta, Planjava, Ojstrica. . .

The trip is therefore very suitable for the whole family, and can also be done in summer (a large part of the route will take you through the forest before the fixed safety gear) and also in winter.

Since we have already explored one route, I decided to descend back to the starting point by the path past the shepherd's hut on Kašna mountain pasture (by the way, Kranjska Rib is the summit, and Kašna mountain pasture seems to be the plateau directly below the summit), as suggested in the aforementioned book that I used on this trip. From the top of Kranjska Ribra I went northwards and after 10 minutes reached the shepherd's hut. As previously mentioned, I saw a few small lakes of water along the way, which can be very surprising to the eye. There is a bench in front of the hut, where you and your family could have eaten something, but there was no shepherd anywhere (I didn't see any cows either; apparently grazing time has been over for quite a few days).
From here I loked around a bit and in the south direction (about 20 metres from the hut) I saw a forest road and was convinced that this was the forest road suggested by the author of the book Kamniško-Savinjske Alpe. I walked south along it for about 5 minutes, then it ended and I came to a wire fence separating the meadow from the forest. From here on, a narrow path (about the width of one mountaineer) was visible in front of me and I continued south and slightly downhill along it. The longer I walked, the clearer it became that I was not on the right path. But don't panic, said the good soldier Švejk. I decided to continue on my way, going gently downhill and walking southwards the whole time. I had a very nice experience walking along the paths used by the forest animals and along the trackless paths. This adventure lasted for a good 30 minutes, and then I reached a gravel forest road, which let me know that I was on the right track towards civilisation. I walked along this road for another 15 minutes or so and arrived at a place where I crossed this same dirt forest road on the way up, thus "tying the sausage". From here, I then followed the same path I had taken earlier up the hill to the starting point. It took me 1 hour and 10 minutes to get from the shepherd's hut to the starting point at Črnivec.

I would therefore advise against the route I took for children and for those who feel uncomfortable with the uncertainty that they may have got lost. But if you want to experience the adventure of walking on unmarked terrain, take heart, because you can't get lost if you follow the rule of going south at the bottom of the hill and descending the whole time.

On the Črnivec Pass you can also see a memorial that tells about the fact that on 16. 6. 1942 the fighters of the Kamnik Battalion destroyed one of the first occupier's outposts in Gorenjska and Štajerska, and that the partisan Pirš Rudi was killed in this fight.

It is also recommended to use the 1 : 50. 000 map of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, but I didn't have it with me, as the book was quite sufficient (forgetting that I got pleasantly lost on the way back).
