Access to the starting point:
From the motorway Ljubljana - Jesenice take the exit Lesce and take the exit Bled, from where you will head towards Pokljuka and Spodnje Gorje. Near the village of Rečica, you will come across the roadside signs "Hotel Triglav, railway station, Rowing Centre", which you follow and turn left. After passing the Vila Mangart restaurant on the right and passing through the settlement, you will see a right turn-off and a sign on the road for a bus stop. Park in a suitable place (currently possible in front of an abandoned house on the left side of the road).
Path description:
Continue along the road in the route you were going before. At the first houses, before the right-hand bend, turn left onto a side road (Za gradom). Follow it past two houses, then straight on (right-hand settlement) to a small bridge over a stream, which you cross. Here you will come to cart track, which you leave and take the path on the right, following the "Višce" sign. The pleasant forest path first climbs uphill in a winding manner, and a little higher up turns slightly left, gradually flattens out and follows a broad ridge in a south-easterly direction. After a short walk, you will come across a beautiful monument to Adolf Muhr, a 19th-century landowner. Behind it, the path crosses the cart track and soon leads to a clearing with a bench. From here, continue straight across the meadow (also right), where you soon see Bled Castle just a little further away. In the meadow, do not turn left, but continue straight on to the edge of the wood (thicket), where you will come across two tracks descending a small slope. Turn right, descend towards the lake, and you will soon come across a wider path, which you can follow to the left, towards the castle. At the lowest point, before ascending, the path crosses another slightly wider path coming from the lake. After a short climb, turn slightly right at the crossroads, and then shortly turn left off the level path onto the uphill path towards the summit. Shortly afterwards, our route crosses the more level path again and continues the ascent to the summit in a slight right turn. Higher up, the path flattens out and we turn right. When we see the castle almost in sight from the path along the northern edge of the hill, we turn off the path to the right, onto the path that leads to the top of the ridge. This leads to a viewpoint on the cliff, with a slight left turn, offering an interesting view of Bled Castle and the lake with the island. After descending back to the main trail, a strong fence accompanies us as we cross the steep slope at a slightly ascending angle, and we soon descend further along the trail to the parking lot below the castle. Continue through the castle walls and up the cobbled path to the entrance to the castle courtyard (entrance fee in season). After visiting the lower terrace, continue past the wine cellar to the upper terrace with the castle's Gothic chapel, museum and restaurant.
