Access to the starting point:
a) Access from Gorenjska: Via Border crossing Rateče or Predel to Trbiž / Tarvisio and then along the motorway towards Udine to the Tolmezzo exit. From Tolmezzo, follow the road towards Ampezzo and the Passo della Mauria mountain pass. The road then descends and leads to a crossroads where you turn left (possibly right) towards Cortina d'Ampezzo. At all subsequent junctions, follow the signs for Cortina d'Ampezzo.
In Cortina d'Ampezzo, follow the signs for the Passo di Falzarego Alpine pass. Follow this ascending road to a crossroads at about 1400m. At the crossroads, turn left towards the Passo Giau and the Marmolada. From the Passo Giau pass, follow the main road for about 2,5 km to the parking area of the Rifugio Fedare hut, which is on the right hand side of the road.
b) From the coastal side: Take the motorway towards Venice/Venezia. At Portogruaro, leave the motorway towards Venice and turn right on the motorway towards Pordenone. At the next motorway junction near Conegliano, turn right towards Belluno. The motorway ends near Belluno and we continue towards Cortina d'Ampezzo at the next junctions. Continue as described above.
Path description:
From the parking lot, take the wide path that leads past the bottom station of the chairlift to the Rifugio Averau hut. At the bottom station of the chairlift, where there is also a crossroads, take the 463 to the left towards the Monte Pore summit and the 464 to the right towards the Rifugio Averau hut.
The road then continues along a narrow dirt road which crosses grassy slopes as it climbs, passing a few shepherd's huts and cottages, and two cart track on the right. A small church will soon be seen on the left, and our path here turns sharply to the left and crosses a small stream. At the next house the road ends and turns into a narrow cart track, which is mostly paved with stone slabs. Cart track climbs for a while through scrub and then leads back to grassy slopes. From the path, however, we have a good view of the peaks above the Passo Giau pass. Cart track then turns slightly to the right, and a shortcut branches off to the left across the grassy slopes.
We continue along cart track and at the next house the path turns left and leads us to a crossroads at the Jof de Melei saddle.
At the crossroads where cart track turns into a track, continue left along route 463 towards the summit of Monte Pore, and slightly to the right the path leads towards Andraz. Our path is then gentle and leads us along grassy slopes from which we can also see northwards. The path then turns further to the left and leads to the ridge on the east side of Monte Pore. Here, the aforementioned shortcut joins us from the left.
Continue along the ridge, which is steeper on the south side but still grassy. The path then follows the ridge to the right and starts to climb a little steeper. The path then leads us past a cross and a memorial, next to which there is also a registration box. We continue to climb the grassy slopes and the path turns back towards the ridge and leads us to a crossroads at the notch Forzela de Antersas
A path leads off to the left, skirting the summit on the south side and continuing down into the valley towards La Vila, while at the crossroads we turn right and continue climbing along the grassy ridge towards the summit of Monte Pore. From the path, we have an increasingly fine view over most of the Dolomites. The slope on the south side of the ridge is a little steeper in the last part, and our route is mostly slightly to the right of the ridge. Following the path along the ridge, you will soon reach a lookout point on which there is a large cross.
