Access to the starting point:
a) From Kranjska Gora via the Koren saddle to Austria, where at the first major junction continue left towards Podkloštro / Arnoldstein and Trbiz / Tarvisio. At the end of Podklošter, signs for Šmohor / Hermagor direct you to the right on the regional road, which takes you past the town to the end of the Ziljska Valley, or more precisely to Kötschach-Mauthen, where you turn right towards Oberdrauburg. The road continues over the Gailbergsattel Alpine pass (982 m), after which you descend into the above-mentioned town. After crossing a bridge over the River Drava, turn left towards Lienz. At the main roundabout in Lienz, turn left towards Sillian and Itali. Next we cross the national border between Austria and Itali, and we follow the main road past Dobbiaco / Toblach, Villabassa / Niederdorf, Monguelfo - Tesido / Welsberg - Taisten, Brunico / Bruneck. Just after the last mentioned town, which is passed by a bypass road, we turn left into the Val Badia valley. Continue along the valley and turn left at Longega towards San Vigilio. In San Vigilio, turn left at the crossroads after the "Pederü" signs. After about 200 metres, turn right, also after the 'Pederü' signs. Follow this road until you reach the large parking lot in front of the Rifugio Pederü.
b) From Nova Gorica, exit into Itali and follow the motorway to Venice/Venezia. At Portogruaro, leave the motorway towards Venice and turn right on the motorway towards Pordenone. At the next motorway junction near Conegliano, turn right towards Belluno. The motorway ends near Belluno and we continue towards Cortina d'Ampezzo at the next junctions. When you arrive in Cortina d'Ampezzo, follow the signs for the Passo Falzarego Alpine pass. At the Passo Falzarego (2105 m), turn right towards the Valparola Pass and continue towards Alta Badia. At La Villa turn right towards Brunico. Follow the road to Longega and turn right towards San Vigilio. In San Vigilio, turn left at the crossroads after the "Pederü" signs. After about 200 metres, turn right, also after the "Pederü" signs. Follow this road until you reach the large parking lot in front of the Rifugio Pederü.
Path description:
From the Rifugio Pederü, turn left onto the dirt road, where you will be directed by signs for the hut. The road, which is closed to traffic, starts to climb very steeply in the keys and beautiful views of the surrounding peaks begin to open up. The road becomes a shade less steep and passes mainly through the forest. After a good half an hour's walk from the starting point, the road leads to a marked crossroads.
Straight ahead the road leads to the Fodara hut, and we continue to the left following the signs 'Rif. Sennes Hütte". At the crossroads, descend slightly and cross the stream. The path is quite gentle for a while and then turns left and ascends steep slopes to the north-west. Higher up, the path turns right and soon joins the road from the Fodara hut.
The road continues to climb gently, and slowly the views begin to open up. The forest along the road is replaced by dwarf pines and the footpath from the Fodara hut joins from the right.
The road becomes a little more sloping and soon you reach a crossroads where the road to Rifugio Ra Stua and Rifugio Biella branches off to the right. We continue left at the crossroads and it is only a short walk along a sloping road to the Rifugio Sennes hut.
From the hut, continue along the dirt road following the signs "Munt de Sennes, Seekofelhütte". The road climbs slightly steeper and soon leads to a marked crossroads. At the crossroads, turn right onto a footpath marked 'Rif. Biella, Seekofelhütte'. The path then climbs for some time and opens up to a fine view of the Muntejela de Sennes peak and the Tofana mountain group. Later on, the trail begins to descend gently and leads from the Fanes Sennes Prags Nature Park to the Ampezzo Nature Park. After a slight downhill, we reach a marked crossroads where we rejoin the dirt road.
At the crossroads, continue left on the dirt road and then climb slightly up the scenic road to the hut.
At the cottage, continue eastwards and the path quickly leads to a marked crossroads. A path branches off to the right down towards Lake Lago di Fosses and the Rifugio Ra Stua hut, and we continue left towards the Forcela Cocodain notch.
From the crossroads, the path runs eastwards and slowly climbs towards the ridge. When you reach the ridge, you have a beautiful view to the north. The trail continues along the ridge and then descends gently. This path then leads to the Forcela Cocodain.
The marked trail turns left at the stump, and we turn right onto the unmarked trail and descend towards the scree below the slopes of Remeda Rossa (Rote Wand). When you reach the scree, you will see a slightly less steep slope on your right, which is the one you are heading for. There is also a trail visible at this point, marked with a number of cairns. The path runs southwards here and later leads to a ridge where you can see the summit of Piccola Croda Rossa. Continue left and climb the gentler slopes on the right side of the ridge. At this point the path becomes broken, but orientation is not too difficult as the numerous cairns are helpful. There is a short climb along a wide ridge and soon we reach the top of Remeda Rossa.
From the summit, we continue along the ridge and first descend gently to the saddle between Remeda Rossa and Piccola Croda Rossa. From the saddle, we then start climbing up the western slopes of Piccola Croda Rossa. The rocky slope on which we are climbing is relatively gentle and does not cause any problems, and the numerous cairns signs help us to find our way. We continue to climb up the west side of the summit, from where we have a very fine view over most of the Dolomites. When you see the cross at the top of the mountain, it is only a short climb on even flatter terrain to the summit. At the top, we also have a wonderful view of the neighbouring peak of Croda Rossa.
