Access to the starting point:
a) First drive to Kranjska Gora, then continue driving towards the Vrh Leh pass just before the 3rd serpentine of the Ruska or vršiška road, you will see the Russian Cross on the right and a small parking lot on the left, where you park. As the parking lot is relatively small and quickly full, you can also park a little higher up in the larger parking lot just above the 4th serpentine (in this case we have to descend a little to our starting point at the Russian Cross).
b) Take the Trenta, then start descending towards Kranjska Gora via the Vršič pass. After the 3rd serpentine of the Ruska or Vršiška cesta, you will see the Russian Cross on the left and a small parking lot on the right, where you park. As the parking lot is relatively small and quickly full, you can also park a little higher up in the larger parking lot just above the 4th serpentine (in this case we have to descend a little to our starting point at the Russian Cross).
Path description:
Just before the 3rd serpentine of the Ruska cesta, we will notice the mountain signs for Koča v Krnici along the road, which direct us slightly to the left to the wide cart track, which immediately starts to descend moderately. After a few minutes of descending through the forest, the path is laid and leads us to the dry Pišnica riverbed. Just after crossing the stream, the path turns slightly to the left and leads us out of the forest onto the vast grassy slopes of the mountain pasture in Klin, where we see a secluded hut on the right and the small memorial park of Mali Tamar on the left. The path ahead is completely laid out and then joins the forest road coming from the former Hotel Erika or the bridge over the Velika Pišnica. Here, continue to the right and follow the relatively steep forest road or parallel mountain trail all the way to Koča v Krnici, which is reached after about 20 minutes of further walking.
From Koča v Krnici continue straight on (left Špik and Velika Dnina) in the direction of Križ, Pogačnikov dom na Kriških podih and Škrlatice. The way forward leads us through the forest at first, then into the lane of bushes, where we walk for some time along the mighty torrential deposits. Higher up, the path turns slightly to the left and starts to climb steeply. There is a steep climb up an area called Travno brdo, where the path leads us through the last lane of the forest. Higher up, the larch forest first thins out and then ends quite quickly. There is a short grassy ascent, and from the path, which turns to scree, we have beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and cliffs. Higher up, at a height of about 1900 metres, the path bends and leads to the cirque corner, and at the end of the cirque, the path turns left and leads to the entrance to the Kriška wall (in early summer, there is often snow at the entrance to the wall).
Before entering the wall, or even before, put on your helmet and then step carefully into the wall. The route turns left at the start of the wall and climbs steeply, but from then on it is mostly natural, with fixed safety gear to help you on the harder parts. The climb up the wall, which, as well as being exposed, is also exposed to falling rocks, takes about one hour. Above the wall, the path lies down and leads to a crossroads at Vrh Kriške stene, and we turn left a few 10 steps earlier onto a trackless path, at the start of which there is usually a larger cairn. Walk to cairn, then look at the direction of ascent. Due to the large number of large cracks and potholes, the initial part of the route is a bit more difficult in terms of orientation, but not particularly difficult in good weather. Once you have crossed the labyrinth, you will reach the foot of the steep slope of Gubný. From here on, we climb up a relatively steep slope, where we stick to the right gateways (if we stick more to the left, it is very steep). After a few minutes of climbing, the slope is flattened, and we move to the top grassy slope of the mountain, which we then walk along all the way to the lookout peak.
Starting point - Koča v Krnici 45 minutes, Koča v Krnici - V kotu 2:30, V kotu - Vrh Kriške stene 1:00, Vrh Kriške stene - Huhnerkogel 45 minutes.
