Access to the starting point:
Drive to the centre of Slovenska Bistrica, where you turn off at the traffic lights in the direction of the health centre and continue along Partizanska cesta. Then drive through the town, continuing straight on, on the outskirts of the town, and at the industrial zone turn onto the road towards Tinje, Sveti Trem kralji and Black Lake. The asphalt road is slightly narrower and starts to climb, initially leading past the Hunting Hut of the pizzeria Gams, then higher up through the village of Visole, and a few kilometres higher up we arrive at Zgornje Tinje, from where we follow the signs for the ski resort of Jakec - Trije kralji (Three Kingdoms). Park in the parking lot at the foot of the ski slope, or near the Church of St. Three Kings.
Path description:
From the place where we parked, we start descending crosswise along the road described in the access to the starting point and after about 100 metres of lost altitude we reach a crossroads from which we continue straight on (right Veliko Tinje and Slovenska Bistrica). Just a few minutes further you reach the next crossroads, where you leave the asphalt road and continue to the left in the direction of Majstrová hiša (straight Šmartno na Pohorju).
After a short climb on the macadam road, we reach the house, where the asphalt ends and we go around the house on the right side, where the signs for Areh direct us to cart track. cart track leads us through the woods and quickly leads to another dirt road, which we follow down to the right, and then turn left on cart track, which leads us through the woods. As we walk through the forest, a path joins us from the right, leading past the Jesen partisan hospital, and we continue straight towards Areh. A little further on, we leave the forest and follow a slightly overgrown path past a hunting observation post back into the forest, where we cross two small streams. Follow the signs after the two streams and then reach a road, which you follow to the right. After a short, easy descent, you will reach the next crossroads, where you will go left, and immediately after the crossroads, right onto the marked path. The path continues gradually into the forest, following the markings at the crossroads, and when you reach the road, go left.
Go straight ahead at a crossroads some 10 paces away, and a few more 10 paces further on, go right onto a footpath (not marked). The ascent follows a worse path, where there are not many markings, but the path soon lays and leads us to a forest road, which we follow to a nearby crossroads, where we are joined on the left by a marked path from the Cottage na Šumiku.
Follow the road to the nearby NOB monument, from where you continue on the marked path, and a few minutes higher up the path joins the cart track, where you follow the markings. Higher up, cross a poorer forest road, and a little further on, arrive at a marked crossroads, where the path to Žigartov vrh branches off to the left, and we continue straight ahead. The path ahead descends slightly and leads to a minor road, along which we continue crossing. Then cross Žigartov vrh, where a short path branches off to the right to the source of the Polskava River, and we continue straight on to a crossroads where we join a wider macadam road, where we go right (a slightly longer path joins from the left, leading over Žigartov vrh).
The way forward takes us through the forest for a few minutes, and when we leave the forest we reach a larger parking lot next to the Hotel Areh. At the end of the parking lot, turn right and within a minute's walk you will reach Ruška hut na Areh.
