Unterloibl - Tscheppaschlucht (Peter Tschauko trail)

Access to the starting point:
We pass through the Ljubljana Tunnel almost to the village of Podljubelj/Unterloibl on the Austrian side. Just before the village, a wooden bridge with a large sign "Tscheppaschlucht" overhangs the road, and on the left you can see a path leading from the parking lot. The road is one-way, so drive another 100 metres and turn left into the asphalted parking lot, which is built on three levels, so there is no problem for parking.

Path description:
From the parking lot, follow the well-marked path, first crossing the Ljubljana Road on the wooden bridge we saw from the road. The path first leads slightly downhill, after a few minutes' walk we reach the adrenaline park, and then a wide path leads us along the Loiblbach stream (on the map the Borovnica stream) in a barely noticeable ascent to the "Goldenes Bruendel", where you have to pay a fee for the maintenance of the trail (€6. 50, children, seniors, groups €4. 50). It takes about 20 minutes to get here, and this is where the gorge actually just begins.
The path ahead is quite bold, mostly narrow, with many steps and bridges, but it is well surfaced and guarded (woden and metal steps, fence, in some places, in addition to the fence on one side of the path, there is also a steel rail on the other side to help climb the sometimes very steep steps. After about an hour's walk from the ticket office, you reach a fork in the trail, where you have several options: left along the Luebel Stream in Loibltal (Brodi) to the bus stop at the Deutscher Peter inn, or right to the Devil's Bridge - an interesting suspension bridge (Teufelsbruecke) and the "Tschauko" waterfall (on the map, "Noise Waterfall"). From the waterfall you can continue to Plajberk/Windisch Bleiberg or the Poden/Bodental valley, but our route leads to the large parking lot at the Deutscher Peter in Loibltal. In the parking lot of the inn we wait for the bus that will take us back to the starting point (the bus runs once an hour, from Deutscher Peter every 10 minutes until the full hour). The transport is free of charge, as the entrance ticket to the gorge includes the bus transport. If you choose Slovenji Plajberk or Poden as your starting point, you can also take the bus to the starting point.
The trail is not suitable for very young children, but although it is quite "airy", it is not exposed anywhere, as it is well protected. Suitable fotwear is, of course, mountaineering boots, even with stronger trainers you will be able to walk in complete safety. You can use walking sticks about halfway up the trail, but you should put them away at the start of the narrow, steep steps, as they will be more of a nuisance than a help on the rest of the trail.
