Usek - Huhnerkogel/Košenjak

Access to the starting point:
We drive into the centre of Dravograd (to get here from Maribor via the Drava Valley or from Velenje via Slovenj Gradec), where the signs for Ojstrica direct us to the road which, after 6. 5km, leads us to the Church of St John the Baptist on Ojstrica. Just 10m after the church, you reach a crossroads where you turn sharp right in the direction of St. Urban. At the following junctions, follow the road towards the church until you are stopped by a ramp near which you park in a roadside parking lot.

Path description:
From the ramp, continue up the road, which climbs moderately and after a few minutes leads to a crossroads, where you continue to the right (unmarked). The road continues in a barely significant climb, crossing the slopes to the east. After about half an hour's walk, the road makes a sharp left turn and leads us out of the forest into a larger clearing, in the middle of which stands the Church of St Urban. From the church, continue westwards, where you will see markings by the cross. The path, which continues to climb gently along the border line between Slovenia and Austria, quickly leads us to a 1367m high peak. The path descends from the top on a slightly rocky slope and then leads to a small wooden bivouac on the Austrian side of the path (locked). Further on, the path, which still follows the border ridge, climbs gently up a more or less vegetated slope. Only rarely do we get some views of the Austrian hills. After a while, the lonely forest path is joined by the path from the Lonhtar farm. A little further on, we come to a crossroads where the usual path to Košenjak joins us from the left. Here, continue straight ahead (to the right of Koralpe) and follow the path to the top, which is reached in a few dozen steps of further walking.
