Volče - Mengore

Access to the starting point:
a) First drive to Nova Gorica, then continue to Bovec. Just after the village Čiginj, turn right towards the nearby factory, and at the first crossroads turn left onto a side road that ends at the nearby NOB monument. Park on the side of the road (only employees are allowed to park in the nearby parking lot).
b) From central Slovenia, drive to Tolmin, then continue to Bovec. When you reach the roundabout, leave the road leading to Bovec and continue driving in the direction of Nova Gorica (the roundabout can also be reached from Bovec). Above the village Volče, just 10 m after the NOB monument, leave the main road and turn left towards the nearby factory. At a small junction in front of the factory, turn left into a dead-end street that ends at the aforementioned monument.

Path description:
Near the NOB monument, you will see signs for Mengore, which direct you to a footpath that quickly turns into a forest. Along the path, which initially climbs through lane of bushes, we will soon see the first chapel of the 14 (the Stations of the Cross on Mengore).
At the second chapel we reach a small crossroads where the path to Brce branches off to the left, and we continue straight on along the path below, with the Stations of the Cross alongside. Higher up, the path climbs steeply and leads us past an old military cavern, then leads to the wider cart track, which we follow to the right. When you reach cart track, you first descend a little and then the path leads you past a chasm and a small cavern to the open-air museum, where there is also a registration box.
From the information boards and memorials, continue along the wider cart track, which is intersected by an unmarked path from the Poljance Pass at a slightly higher level. Continue straight ahead and, passing two more stations of the cross, you will quickly reach Mengore.
