Access to the starting point:
From Dravograd drive towards Maribor or vice versa, after Radlje ob Dravi (from Maribor before Radlje) leave the main road at the roundabout towards Maribor or Dravograd and continue driving towards Vuhred, Ribnica na Pohorju and Ribniška koča. After the bridge over the Drava River, we arrive at Vuhred, and we continue to the right towards Vuzenica, and then before the end of Vuhred we park in a larger asphalted parking lot near the sports ground and the parish church of St. Lawrence.
Path description:
From the parking lot, go back a little way to the centre of Vuhred, from where you can follow the marked path leading to Janževski vrh. Walk east along the asphalt road for a while and then, at the water trough, the signs for Janževski vrh direct you to the right, where you will quickly reach the fire station. Go around the firehouse on the left and at a small crossroads go right to reach the ski slope Vuhred, which you cross to the right. On the other side of the ski slope, the trail enters the forest and starts to climb steeply. Soon you will reach cart track and continue ascending, following the signs at the crossroads. Cross the dirt road and continue the ascent along cart track, which opens up some views from higher up. After a few minutes of climbing along a wooded ridge, you will reach a bench with a registration box in front of the Brdnik homestead, which is located at the top of the lookout hill.
Above the bench, leave the forest and go around the farm on the right. With beautiful views of Kozjak and Pohorje, we reach a macadam road, which we start descending. When the road stops descending and turns into the forest, the signs point us slightly to the right onto a footpath that continues through the forest and after a few minutes returns to the road. Leave the road again by continuing slightly to the right, reaching another road at a nearby weekend, and then return to the dirt road which you have left several times before. A little further on, we leave the forest and arrive at a lookout slope from which a wonderful view of Pohorje opens up, and we leave the road at a bench surrounded by two birch trees and descend through the hay meadows to the Kajžer farm, where milk, wood, honey and juice are sold.
The way forward leads us along an asphalt road, mostly descending moderately, and at the crossroads we follow the markings for Janževski vrh. After the chapel of Our Lady of Roznovenska, the road returns to the forest, and we leave it as the signs direct us to the right to the initially wide cart track, which leads us past a small hunting observation post and a small sign. There is a slightly steeper descent, and then we return to the road, which stops descending. Pass a nearby farmhouse on the left and continue slightly left from the crossroads, following the upper road. There is a climb with fine views of Pohorje, and we pass an older chapel to reach the Ušman homestead, where the path returns to the forest. Continue through the forest on cart track, turning right at a thinner part of the forest, and right again at a higher altitude to reach another cart track, and then a forest road. Follow the road to the right, then follow it down to the tarmac road, where you go left uphill, where you are also directed by the signs for Janževski vrh. Continue along the asphalt road, from which the road to Grizot's hut Kompos branches off to the left, and we continue along the asphalt road, which leads us on past some of the Stepišnik farm houses. After the farm, there is some downhill, and when the road returns to the forest, we leave it temporarily and continue slightly to the right along a marked shortcut. After a short climb
From the end of the parking lot, continue straight ahead and after 100 metres of further walking, you will reach St John's Church and the hunting hut on Janževski vrh.
