Access to the starting point:
The best way to get into Zagreb is from the south at the entrance to the Buzin square (the road south here goes to Velika Gorica and the aerodrome). When you get near the Velesejme turn right (traffic lights), then at the roundabout in the route Zagreb-center (north). You will come to Marina Držića street, which is the only one you can take straight ahead. There will be a bus stop on the way. After the railway underpass, go slightly left at the traffic lights (there is an alley in this street), but at the next crossroads go right (this is now Bauerova ulica). Just keep going until you reach Vlaška ulica.
Now turn left to the west and just follow Vlaška Street as it turns into the two-lane Medveščak road. Here you will see the first arrows marking Šestina.
The road climbs gently up to Šestine. When the road reaches the highest point and starts to descend, go right and after a minute you will reach the large parking lot of the Lagvić restaurant. Park here, or somewhere nearby.
Path description:
From the parking lot, walk up past the Lagvić restaurant. A minute after the restaurant, we see a wooden carport. Here, our path splits from the asphalt and goes slightly downhill and then for a while through the forest. All the time we are above the Kraljevec stream. Our path goes further and further into the gorge of the stream. When we cross the bridge, our path starts to climb steeply, helped by steps and a fence. When we get out of the gorge, the path is flat again, and the stream is on the left side, and we are near the road again. The path leads us along the laid part to a resting place at the Kraljičin zdenac lake, where we can rest and have a snack.
From Kraljičina zdenec, the first trail to branch off is trail 48, which goes up Elvira's trail (so we can avoid the climb up Mrcina), and we continue in the direction of Tomislav's home. Our route is now number 1. The path is flat for a while, but then it starts to climb more and more through the lane of the pine forest.
After the pine forest there is a small flat part, and then the path out of the forest leads us to the "most difficult" part of the path - the climb over Mrcino (that's how the mountaineers called this slope). The problem on Mrcina is the ground, which is extremely muddy in wet conditions, and cobbly and rocky in dry conditions. On Mrcina, we will climb steeply in a few serpentines to the top ridge. As we reach the forest, the steepness will become more and more gentle, and the path will gradually descend and we will enter a rare and tall forest.
Here we will cross a wide forest road and we will be back in a short strip of coniferous forest. There is a serpentine ascent through a sparse forest, which leads to the road and Tomislav's house. Here, somewhere, is the 1000 m altitude limit.
Now we follow the road to the parking lot next to Tomislav's house and climb up the stone staircase. The path leads us to the Zlatni Medvjed guesthouse. We go up and after a minute we are under the TV transmitters located at the top of Sljeme.
