Zalog - Planica (Paragliding site Gozd)

Access to the starting point:
a) Leave the Gorenjska motorway at exit Kranj West, then follow the signs for Golnik. In the village of Goriče, leave the main road towards Golnik and turn right towards Zalog. Follow the signs for Zalog, where the route described above starts in the centre of the village, by the mountain signs. There are no parking spaces at the starting point.

b) From Tržič, drive to Križe, then continue to Golnik and Kranj. In Goriče, leave the main road towards Kranj and turn left towards Zalog. Follow the signs for Zalog, where the route described above begins in the centre of the settlement, by the mountain signs. There are no parking spaces at the starting point.

Path description:
From the centre of Zalog, continue straight on towards Gozd and Kriška gora (Velika Poljana, Mala Poljana and Storžič on the right) and follow the asphalt road to the hamlet of Svarje, where the road turns left. The road turns to gravel after a few houses, and you leave before it starts to descend.

Continue to the right, where the road turns into the forest behind a house, and in the forest there are markings, which have not been present so far, with the exception of a mountain direction sign. Through the forest, initially climb crosswise to the left, but when you reach cart track, continue to the right. Cart track quickly splits, we take the left fork, and follow the signs at the next forks. At a higher altitude, cart track ends and we continue our ascent along the initially steep mountain path, which gradually becomes flatter. The path leads us out of the forest, onto vast pastures, over which we walk in a few minutes to the village Gozd, where we continue left at the first crossroads (right Koča na Kriški gori and Tolsti vrh), and right at the second crossroads, only a few 10 steps away (left Golnik).

The way forward leads past the church of St Nicholas, past the parking lot and past the road turnoff to the Gozd airstrip, to Zavetišče v Gozdu, which is seen on the left hand side of the road.

From the shelter, go back a few 10 steps and then continue towards the viewpoint and the Gozd airstrip. At first, we climb up the asphalt road, which offers a nice view towards Kriška Gora, but the road quickly becomes macadam and turns into a forest. There is only a slight climb and the road leads to Planica or the Gozd airstrip.
