Žerjav - Pogorevc

Access to the starting point:
a) First, drive to Šoštanj (to get here from Velenje or Savinjska dolina), then continue to Črna na Koroškem. The road then starts to climb towards the Spodnje Sleme Pass (1081 m), which is reached after a few kilometres of winding road. Then descend along the valley of the Javorski brook to Črna na Koroškem, where at the roundabout in the centre of the town (a roundabout in the middle of which there is a monument, a bus station nearby and the parish church of St. Ožbalta), turn right in the direction of Žerjav. Continue past the mining museum and then along the Mežiška valley towards Žerjav. In Žerjav, after the TAB MPI factory and the Petrol station, cross the bridge over the Mež River, and immediately after the bridge, turn right along a slightly narrower asphalt road towards Uršlje Gora, Jazbina and Žerjav. Park at the branch primary school or one of the nearby parking spaces.
b) First drive to Ravne na Koroškem (reachable from Dravograd or Slovenj Gradec), then continue driving towards Mežica and Črna na Koroškem. When you reach Žerjav (Žerjav is a settlement between Mežica and Črna na Koroškem), just before the main road crosses the Meža River, turn left in the direction of Uršlje gora, Jazbina and Žerjav. Park at the branch primary school or one of the nearby parking spaces.

Path description:
The route, which is marked with direction signs, starts between the apartment blocks, where you can see the signpost for Dukles on the right hand side. Follow the macadam road up a little above the settlement to a house and a meadow. Cross the steep meadow and you will come to a forest road. On the road turn left uphill and up a steep slope to a sharp bend where you turn right. After about 100 metres, there is a sign for Dukles on the right and the start of an unmarked trail. The track climbs quite steeply in the keys, but the steepness soon eases. Soon we reach the ridge and views of Smrekovec, Raduha and Olševa and Žerjav below us open up. The path along the ridge is quite narrow, and on the right side it cuts steeply towards Jazbina. After a few short, steeper parts of the trail, we rise among the heather-covered slopes of Pogorevec. The path crosses the slope and soon above and below us we see the rocks, which in spring are full of flowering auriculas. On a rather narrow path, we descend a little to some rocks on the left and from there we reach the Dukles hunting lodge in a few minutes.
Before the hunting lodge, turn left and follow the ridge to the top of Pogorevac.
