Ampferstein

Description of peak:
Ampferstein is a less prominent peak, situated between the better-known Marchreisenspitze and the Halsl saddle in the picturesque Kalkkögel mountain range.

Despite its lower profile, the peak is relatively well visited, as the popular protected "Lustige Bergler" trail passes just below it and offers the only marked approach to Ampferstein. The view at the top is comparable to that from the neighbouring Marchreisenspitze, although the latter obscures the view towards the Stubai valley and the western part of the Inn valley; on the other hand, Ampferstein offers one of the best views of Marchreisenspitze, and the Mieming and Nordkette mountains above Innsbruck, Zillertal Alps and part of the Kalkkögl are also visible. Zillertal Alps is one of the best views of Marchreisenspitze, while the Mieming and Nordkette above Innsbruck, Zillertal Alps and part of the Kalkkögl are also visible.
