Description of mountain:
Podsreda castle (originally German name Hörberg or Herberch) is promoted by its manager (Kozjanski Park) as "the most castle-like of Slovenian castles". Its origins probably date back to the 12th century, but it certainly stod as early as 1213, when it was first mentioned in written sources. Throughout history, it has changed hands (e.g. Celjski gofje, Habsburgs,... and finally the Windischgrätz family, under whom it took on its present appearance) until it was ruined after the end of the Second World War. In 1983, the management was taken over by the Memorial Park Trebče, the legal predecessor of today's Kozjanski Park, and systematic restoration began immediately. Today, the castle houses several permanent and temporary exhibitions and a hotel in the west wing.
The castle is situated on the northern slope of the Orlice River, approximately 130 metres above Podsreda itself. From Podsreda it can be reached on foot along the Castle Trail or by road past Železný. The European E7 footpath (the section between Svete gore and Pečiny), the Zasavska mountain trail, etc., lead past the castle.
