Description of peak:
Habicht (Slovene: "kragulj") is a bald and mighty mountain rising high above the Stubai and Obertal valleys; its somewhat isolated position (it is the highest peak in Stubai Alps, which is not part of the Hochstubai group or the Alpein mountain range) makes it recognisable from afar, and the view from the top is correspondingly remarkable. Before the development of measuring devices, it was often assumed to be the highest mountain in Tirol because of the exposure and grandeur it shows to visitors to Innsbruck and the surrounding area. Although it lags behind Wildspitze in height by almost 500 metres and is more than 200 metres lower than Stubai Alps's highest peak, Zuckerhütl, Habicht retains an important role in the development of local tourism and is one of the most popular three-thousanders in the wider area.
The view from the summit is outstanding. Due to its height and exposed position, Habicht is the leading vantage point after Stubai Alps, which can be almost completely encompassed by the view, as well as the glacial expanses of the Ötztal Alps, the Ortler Group and the peaks of the Zillertal Alps; deep below are the Stubai Valley, the Obertal Valley and the Oberbergbach basin, and the view reaches all the way to Innsbruck and the Karwendel mountains above. Perhaps the most beautiful views are towards the bold and pleasing Tribulauns; the most enchanting view is from the pleasant Lake Alfaier, just below the path to Habicht.
