Description of peak:
Hafelekarspitze is Innsbruck's home mountain and the most popular peak in one of the most admired ridges of the Eastern Alps: the Nordkette, which forms the characteristic panorama of Innsbruck, the city that lies deep below. The leading reason for the popularity of this otherwise nondescript peak is the cable car that runs from the centre of Innsbruck right to the summit; it is only a few minutes' leisurely walk from the top of the cable car to the summit.
The summit, like the Nordkette in general, is a first-class viewpoint: Innsbruck is in the palm of your hand, with the Zillertal, Stubai and part of the Ötztal Alps to the south, and the rest of the Karwendel mountain range to the north, which forms one of the most distinctive parts of the Northern Limestone Alps.
