Description of peak:
At 3,510 metres, Hochfeiler (Gran Pilastro in Italian) is the highest peak of Zillertal Alps, located on the border between Austria and Itali. The summit is very popular with mountaineers as it is relatively easy to reach and does not require a glacier climb, a rarity in the Alps at this altitude. From the summit, where the large cross stands, there is a very nice view over most of Zillertal Alps, and you can also see High Tauern and the Dolomites. The first ascent was made by Paul Grohmann, Georg Samer and Peter Fuchs on 24 July 1865.
