Description of mountain:
Mali Karman is the first prominent peak in the extreme south-western part of the Julian Alps fothills. It lies parallel to the main ridge of Veliki Karman as a completely independent mass, linked only by the Predol saddle. To the east, the Vedronza stream has cut a deep valley between them. Otherwise, despite its apparently modest height, Mali Karman is not so greedy. More than 1100 metres high, it rises above the Friuli plain in the shape of a grassy pyramid, providing a unique view of the surrounding countryside. Only on the northern side is it somewhat truncated, as it is blocked by the taller and also much more imposing Veliki Karman, whose ridge loks quite impressive from here. Due to its exposed position, the slopes of Mali Karman support a wide variety of vegetation, including several endemic species. At the top stands the chapel dedicated to the Redeemer (Il Redentore), built in 1908, but long gone. It was damaged by lightning twenty years after it was built and was completely destroyed in the 1976 earthquake. Several paths lead from all sides to the summit of the lower of the two Carmanes, so it is not lacking in visitors. What's more, it is not only adored by hikers, but also, and especially, by mountain bikers and, last but not least, paragliders.
