Rifugio Vandelli / Lago di Sorapiss

Description of mountain hut:
Lake Rifugio Vandelli is located in the Sorapiss mountain group, below the precipitous cliffs of the highest peaks. The lake, recognisable by its turquoise colour, offers a beautiful view, especially of the precipitous northern faces of the nearby peaks. The Rifugio Alfonso Vandelli hut is also located near the lake. The hut was first built in 1821 and is located in the immediate vicinity of the lake. In 1895, the hut was destroyed by an avalanche, and a new one was later built in another location a few minutes' walk from the lake.
