Description of peak:
Sadnig or Hoher Sadnig is a relatively easily accessible and scenic mountain in the eponymous Sadniggruppe (German: Sadniggruppe), which is the southern arm of the Goldberggruppe (German: Goldberggruppe) in Austrian Carinthia.
The panorama from the vast summit, on which the large cross stands, includes a number of three-thousanders (e.g. Sonnblick and Grossglockner).
Sadnig stands at the junction of the three Mölltal valleys (Asten, Großfragant and Kolmitzen) and is also the border point of three municipalities (Flattach, Mörtschach and Stall).
Etymological sources give interpretations that the name of the mountain comes from the Slovenian word for "last".
The mountain is popular with touring skiers, and its most recent claim to fame was the filming of Seven Years in Tibet (1997), starring Brad Pitt (who was flown by helicopter to the mountain or its approach ridge during the winter months). Among Slovenians, the mountain is also known for the Vrhovi prijateljstva (Peaks of Friendship) transversal.
