Description of saddle:
Schmalzscharte is a 2444 m high saddle or notch in the Ankogel mountain group, which is part of the High Tauern. It is interesting mainly for its visit to the source of the Mura River (1898 m), which is located in the upper part of the Mura River valley. From the pass, you can see the northern faces of the Kaltwandspitze, Kölnbreinspitze and Großer Hafner peaks. The view is also enhanced by the Unterer Schwarzsee, a mountain lake directly below the pass. The saddle is also accessible from the Maltatal valley.
