Description of mountain:
Šoštanj is located in the western part of the Šaleška Valley, along the river Paka. To the east of the town lies Družmirsko jezero, which was formed by subsidence above the Premogovnik Velenje tunnels and has become the deepest lake in Slovenia with a depth of 87 m. Years ago, the village Družmirje, after which the lake was named, was located on the lake site. The village was settled by the first groups of Slovenian people during the Middle Ages, together with the good prince Tresimir. In the 14th century, the Šoštanj square was granted the rights of a market town. All the development was transferred to Šoštanj Square, which was situated under Šoštanj Castle, known today as Pusti grad. In the 19th century, Šoštanj was given a major industrial bost with the construction of the Vošnjak leather factory, which at that time was the largest leather factory in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The Široko family villa, which has now been converted into a restaurant, is an interesting place to visit. In the city centre, we can find the birthplace of Karel Destovnik - Kajuh (Kajuh's home), the city park (Kajuh's park), Villa Mayer, the Leather Museum, etc.
