Description of peak:
Spathi (Greek: Σπαθί), 2148 m high, is the highest mountain of the Dikti range (Greek: Δικτη) on the Greek island of Crete. Of the three mountain ranges in Crete with peaks above 2000 meters, Dikti is the easternmost (alongside Lefka Ori and Psiloritis).
A unique natural wonder is the vast, fertile, basin-like plain at 900 meters above see level: the Lasithi plateau (English: Lasithi plateau, Greek: Οροπέδιο Λασιθίου), and it is situated below the northern ridges of the Dikti range.
Spathi is a grat viewpoint, nearby to the east is the peak of Lazaros, 2085 meters (Greek: Λάζαρος), while the peak of Afentis Christos, 2141 meters (Greek: Αφέντης Χρήστος/Ψαρή Μαδάρα), lieas to the southwest.
Various types of trees grow here, among others, Eastern Mediterranean pine, cypress, and various species of oak are found in the lower slopes. On the higher slopes, there is low, ankle-high thorny shrubbery that is melliferous, where you can also observe the Carniolan honey bee (Latin: Apis mellifera carnica), the predominant bee species in the highlands of Crete (Greeks typically use Langstroth hives rather than AŽ hives).
