Description of peak:
Sveti Ivan is a peak with a chapel of the same name above Veli Lošinj.
The view from this point is breathtaking. Veli Lošinj is in the palm of your hand, the islands of Pag and Rab and the Velebit massif can be seen in the distance, and the Italian coastline can be seen from the other side with good visibility.
The church at the top of Kalvarija Hill was built in 1755 by Antonio Sforzina as a memorial chapel for his family.
In the same year, the Via Crucis (Way of the Cross) with three simple chapels and wooden crosses representing the stations was built on the path leading up from Vele Lošinj to the church.
There is also an ancient story about the viewpoint of St Ivan. At a time of great discoveries and overseas voyages, the children of Lošinj waited at this spot,
waiting for a ship to appear on the horizon and immediately informed the whole village of the return of the local sailors.
