Description of peak:
St Paul's Church is situated west of the village of Ročinj on a hill 403 m above sea level. It was built in the Gothic architectural style in the late Middle Ages, but has been restored or extended several times over the years. The rhomboid-domed vaulted choir dates from the last quarter of the 15th century and the bell tower was probably added at a later date. During the First World War, the church was largely destroyed by shelling and its three bells were also destroyed. The Ročinjci also took part in the reconstruction, which took place in the 1930s. The straw for the roof was hewn in the village and 27 men were needed to carry it to the church. The three new bells, weighing 396, 233 and 162 kilograms, were cast in January 1933 by the De Poli foundry in Vittorio Veneto. They were brought to Ročinj in 1936 and baptised there. The godfathers of the bells were local residents Justina Dugar, Angela Kamenšček and Jožef Malnič. Masses were held in the church in January on the feast of the conversion of St Paul, on Easter Monday, on Pentecost Monday and on the third day of the week of the Cross.
Today, the church is best known for its stone monument depicting Calvary. It consists of Jesus, the two thieves and, below the cross, Jesus' mother Mary and Mary Magdalene. In 1588, the Ročinj clergy bought the mountain pasture "in the Karst" from the Cottis family of the Cottis family, from whom they received an annual rent of £15 of cheese. In 1709 she sold mountain pasture and, according to tradition, used the proceeds to erect a monument. A statue of St Paul stands beside the church when approached from the north via the 'Preval'. On the path leading to the church from the 'Zdenc' area in Ročinj, the remains of three chapels are visible today, already marked on a military map from the end of the 18th century. The footpath also connects St Paul's Church with the nearby Church of St Peter, which stands to the south-west above the village of Ajba.
