Description of peak:
Wilder Pfaff (Italian: Cima del Prete) is a less distinct border mountain in the central ridge of the High Stubai, located between the better known Wilder Freiger (3418 m) and Zuckerhütl (3507 m), the highest peak being Stubai Alps. The easy approach from the west - mostly a long high-altitude glacier walk, but requiring full glacier equipment and walking in a bundle - and the relative proximity of the "Stubaier Glacier" ski area make the sixth highest point of Stubai Alps quite popular: on warm summer and autumn days we will rarely be alone on the summit, although a significant number of guests will continue on to the nearby Zuckerhütl or descend the challenging east ridge to the Übeltalferner glacier.
The ascents of the three key peaks of the Hochstubai - Wilder Freiger, Wilder Pfaff and Zuckerhütl - can be combined into an ambitious multi-day tour, which is considered to be a high-mountain classic of the Stubai Alps. The ascent over the east ridge of Wilder Pfaffa, quickly reached from one of the two high mountain huts above the Übeltalferner glacier, forms one of the two key segments of this route, along with the final ascent of Zuckerhütl.
Due to its height and its position above the valley, the very spacious Wilder Pfaff is an excellent viewpoint whose panorama is particularly marked by one of the most beautiful views of the nearby Zuckerhütl, the view of the mountains above Übeltalferner and the view of the Stubai Valley and the mountain ranges above it.
