Description of peak:
At 3507 m, Zuckerhütl is the highest peak of Stubai Alps and one of the most sought-after high-altitude destinations in Tirol: the fact that the popular Stubai Alps is located close to the "Stubaier Gletscher" ski resort, where lifts take you over 3000 m high and thus shorten the access considerably, its attractive shape, recognisable from afar, reminiscent of a (sugar) bun above the vast glaciers, and the wide view, which corresponds to its status as the highest peak in the wider surroundings, all contribute to the popularity of the mountain, which is not easy to reach, but is not easy to reach at all.
Although there are several routes to the base of its summit rock formation, there is only one (modestly) marked passage to the summit: the mountain is infamously crumbly, so approaching the summit from other directions is risky. The otherwise short climb to the summit requires exposed unprotected climbing up to grade II in places on unstable terrain.
In keeping with the expectations of a champion of the mountains, the summit offers spectacular views on all sides: the neighbouring Ötztal Alps, headed by the Wildspitze and Hohe Geige to the west, the eastern part of Stubai Alps and Zillertal Alps to the east; to the north, the view over the vast Sulzenauferner glacier takes us into the Stubai Valley and the mountain ranges above, while to the south, Italy's South Tyrol reveals itself below us.
