Description:
The extensive facility of the ruin is located on a receding ridge of the Steinwender Höhe above the municipality of Treffen.
The history of the castle dates back to the 9th century. In 878, King Karlmann donated the Treffen estate to the Bavarian monastery Ötting. From this estate, the later castle likely developed over time. In the 10th century, Treffen came to the Bishopric of Salzburg.
