Description: Over 2,000 Alpine Association members participated in the "Zentralalpendurchquerung" project at the end of July 2012 and hiked across Austria in one day to celebrate 150 years of the Alpine Association (long-distance trail 02, 66,000 elevation meters, 1,250 km). The crowning of the tour was the star ascent of Großglockner - on the anniversary of its first ascent (July 28, 1800). While one team ascended to the summit via the first ascenders' route (via Salmhütte), the Matrei section in East Tyrol climbed past the Stüdlhütte to the Glockner in 19th-century historical equipment. The third part of the star ascent led as a more extreme variant over the Lammergrat to the summit cross and was accomplished by a two-person rope team.
