/ Alpine Chough (Pyrrhocorax graculus)
Alpine Chough (Pyrrhocorax graculus)
Alpine Chough is an alpine bird which is very frequent in Slovenia. We can notice it on every top of the mountain above 1500 metres high above sea level. They are very friendly to mountaineers and are ture acrobats. It can fly in strong wind without any problems while it barely moves its wings. Kids are big fans of them because if they are persistent Alpine Coughs can eat right out of their hands. We recognize them by their black color with a yellow beak and orange feet. They are usually appearing in Karavanke and rarely in south of Julijske Alpe. Mountaineers take care of their food in nice sunny days otherwise they eat small insects. They nest in cracks of rocks above 1500 metres high above sea level. Female lays 4-5 eggs in june.
