Access to the starting point:
a) First drive to Škofja Loka, then continue to Železniki. In Železniki turn right for the route Rudno, Dražgoše and Bohinjska Bistrica. Towards Dražgoše, drive to Rudno, then turn slightly left towards Bohinjska Bistrica. Continue along the macadam road for some time, which climbs moderately for the first 10 km and then begins to descend towards the forestry cottage at Rovtarica, where you park at a suitable place at the junction of several roads.
b) Drive to Bohinjska Bistrica and continue to Soriška planina. After a few kilometres of climbing, we arrive at a crossroads where the road to Soriška planina turns sharp right and we continue straight on towards Železniki and Škofja Loka. The road then becomes macadam, and we follow it to the forestry hut at Rovtarica, where we park in a suitable place at the junction of several roads.
Path description:
From Rovtarica, follow the road in the direction of Vodice, the Goška Ravan Mountain Home, Martinček and Selska mountain pasture. The road first climbs past a few huts, then passes into the forest, where it quickly leads to a marked crossroads. From the crossroads continue straight on in the direction of Goška Ravna (left Počitniški dom Goričane), and we follow the ascending road to the next crossroads at the NOB monument.
Here we continue straight on (left Selska planina 1 minute) and then quickly arrive at a small crossroads where we continue on the right road leading towards Lipniška planina (straight ahead Vodiška mountain pasture).
From the crossroads onwards the road climbs moderately to steeply, and soon leads us out of the forest to the scenic slopes of Visoki vrh (1359 m), from where we have a beautiful view of the western part of Jelovica, the Lower Bohinj Mountains and part of the valley of the Sava Dolinka. Higher up, the road drops off the slopes and onto the plateau. A few minutes after the road has been laid, we can see the Radovljiška mountain pasture behind a belt of woods to the left of the road. The road ascends and descends a few times, and leads us past a few small crossroads, but we continue straight ahead or along the "main road" everywhere.
When we reach the crossroads where we see the markings for Lipniška planina pointing right, the markings for Vodiško mountain pasture pointing straight ahead, we continue left on the road, which begins to descend gently towards Martinčko (there are no markings for this direction). After a few more minutes of walking through the thick spruce forest, we pass the National Liberation Monument and the path leads us to the first of the three huts at Martinčko, the second and third being located just a little further on.
