Access to the starting point:
The famous Poetto Beach lies 5 kilometres east of the centre of Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, and is the easiest to reach by public transport.
Path description:
From Poetto, turn left after 5 minutes onto Via Vergine di Lluc and at the small square of Piazza San Bartolomeo turn left onto Calamosca. Follow the road straight ahead until it reaches its highest point, where you turn towards the lighthouse in the distance. About 100 metres before the lighthouse, you will see a number of paths and cycle jumps on the right (if you continue to the lighthouse, it will take you about 10 minutes longer). Take any of these and start climbing up the footpath to the saddle between the lighthouse and the fortress. From the saddle, we follow a sloping path towards the fortress, which we reach after a 5 or 10 minute walk (in between, we are treated to a view of the sea and the six kilometre beach from which we came). The fortress or its remains can be entered unhindered, and through the lines in the walls, we can see views of all the sides below us.
The pictures reflect conditions as of February 2016.
