Velika Baba (Kanin)

Description of peak:
Velika Baba is the southernmost two-thousand-metre peak of the Kanin Mountains. It is separated from the main ridge to the north by the Med Baban saddle, which is a good 100 m lower, to the east and north-east by the Kaninski Podi, to the south by a steep descent to the lower Mala Baba and the lower Monte Guarda, and to the west by a steep drop towards the Rezija valley. The view extends from the nearby Visoki Kanin, Prestreljenik, the Great Baban Barn, Rombon and other lesser-known peaks in the mountain range to Mangrt, Jalovec, Bavški Grintovec, the peaks above the Kriški Podi, Triglav, Kanjavec, Lepego Špičje and the Krn Mountains. In front of it is the Polovnik ridge, below it the Soča valley, and a little further to the right are the Stol and Matajur ridges. The horizon, via the ridges of Monte Guarda, Muzce and Lopič, ends at the saddle of Karni Amariani, Pisimoni, Zuc dal Bor, and in clear weather you can see all the way to Antelao, Pelmo and Marmolada in the Dolomites.
