Trail marking: white circle with (dark) green border - what does it mean

Hello. Recently in my area they painted trail markings on trees and poles along the main path with a white circle and green border. It's not a forest educational trail, as there is no forest along the path, and the path doesn't lead into the forest. The markings end when the road from my place joins the inter-municipal road. Does anyone know what this marking means? Thanks for answers.

Last year I noticed those markings under Velikim kladivom near pl.Šija. I think the markings are intended for mountain runners / hiking trail/

I definitely saw two blue XXs on one rock and also near the sign for Veliko kladivo, right above pl Šija. I searched pictures, but it seems I deleted them.
