Northern Domžale Loop

Bandzo21. 11. 2020 19:29:33
Last time, when we did a smaller loop around Veliki vrh (642 m), the highest peak of Domžale municipality, we imagined a slightly longer loop connecting 7 hills above Radomlje. And we carried it out soon after that debate. In sequence follow Homški hrib (395 m), Grdavov vrh (572 m), Kolovec (528 m), Veliki vrh (642 m), Špičji vrh (522 m), Zagoriški vrh (532 m) and finally Žiški vrh (482 m), before heading past the church through gmajna and Turnš back home. The route accumulated 930 m elevation on 27 km. Terrain is easy up to Grdavov vrh, with well-maintained paths; to Kolovec we climbed a rarely visited very steep variant just before the quarry upwards and along the ridge Kolovec-Veliki vrh to it. With descent off-trail from here we marked the direction and past Florjanček to Špičji vrh from where we bypassed the farm at Jasen as two big dogs rushing towards us clearly showed we had no business there. velik nasmeh Last ascent to Zagoriški vrh was short but sweet, same to Žiški where we earned a piece of pie. There followed descent and walk back home.

Thanks for the idea, when I visit home areas again on occasion...velik nasmeh

When I was a kid, I traversed Homški hrib and surrounding forest paths (and thickets) countless times. Steepest part is from Kam. Bistr. stream on NE side of hill, past monument to fallen partisans WWII to so-called Špica. Short but sweet steep, where you grab roots here and there. Then nicely cross the ridge on forest trail and later either descend past ski jump to valley (Nožice) or walk to church of Mary's Birth, from where wonderful view of central KSA. Up there also a wall that was bulwark against Turkish raids.

Spent a lot time in Arboretum too (knew several "locals' shortcuts" so no pay :tonguenasmeh ) and at castle ruins on hilltop inside mentioned park. Shame what's left is decaying. Lower mansion burned anyway, we know when.

Was at Triglav hospital in Kolovec gorge too, never on hillocks up there. Didn't know castle remains there too (or slipped memory).

On Žiški hrib my "skiing career" started and ended. As six-year-old flew into wooden board on slope (only one course) and broke arcade. Since then never skis again.

@brett

Yes, Homški hrib is so nice when the bell tower peeks out of the morning mist. That slope you mention is really pleasant to get a bit out of breath. Then you can quickly descend to sweeten with blackberries that grow in abundance just a bit lower nasmeh I have to admit these hillocks are extremely nice, especially those in the northern part that really give pleasant cool in summer with their valleys. Some exploring left to find some connections that would nicely link the hillocks. E.g. Ronta, Jazbine, Babji trebuh. Also need to check secrets of Konjski graben and Jasenski graben. But number of visitors around here has increased exceptionally with introduction of anti-corona measures. But Žiški vrh you say was first and last skiing challenge velik nasmeh

Everyone has their own nasmeh I e.g. started and ended skiing on Vidrga when I once forgot that braking depends mainly and only on - me. And the orange woven fence went to pieces, with it my joy of skiing velik nasmehvelik nasmehvelik nasmeh
