Mala Rinka

This morning I was on the lowest Rinka, started the trail at the end and continued over Žmavčarje, past the Bivouac under Skuta to Mala Rinka. As for conditions, it was sprinkled with snow this morning from about 1800 m onwards to the Bivouac and beyond. At the top occasionally a bit windy, periods of partial cloudiness and sun alternated. Great views from the top, on return all snow below the bivouac had already melted, which seems to be in store for the snow in higher elevations too. Pictures follow. One more thing - on return, with another hiker we found car remote keys together with regular key and white fob, on which phone number is barely visible. If anyone misses these keys they are at Dom in Kamniška Bistrica.

Yesterday we went through Turski couloir, heading to Rinke.

Winter gear already needed (crampons + ice axe).

Best regards

Weekend at Okrešelj, yesterday to Mali Rinka. Aim was all 4, but due to zero visibility turned back at Mali (no visible tracks ahead) and descended. Conditions in the couloir good in upper half, lower quite soft and sinking to the balls on descent. Otherwise nicely used weekend for rehab trip ... and some pics follow ...

Saturday was much nicer.
The gullies are shallower and less interesting this year.
Marijan, enjoy and good luck.

The Kamniške have some special microclimate that I experienced again on Saturday... When conditions are marginal (somewhere between sun and clouds), Skuta with surroundings loves to be fogged in, but a few peaks away you have clear sky... Our goal that day was the Rinka-Skuta ridge.

Around 1600m the first sun appears to us, 200m higher the first snow starts - crusty. At the bivouac the weather was a bit mixed... Some sun, some clouds, but when we bite into the slope towards the Rinkas, fog. We walked a bit by memory. When we reach the indistinct summit, we are at Mali Rinka in fog. Poor visibility took our will, the mountain will wait, so we descend.

Yesterday I went via Žmavčarje to bivouac under Skuta and on to Mali Rinka. There were some small snowfields on the way, but no winter gear needed.
There were a huge number of cars in Kamniška Bistrica.1

Today to Mali Rinka from Logarska.

Snow starts about halfway between bridge above waterfall and spring. In the morning it was icy. Same continued above spring, with short snow-free part.

To Turski couloir best follow one of the tracks, as they're frozen; outside them it sinks too much. Unfortunately only direct line leads to couloir, track not routed through key points. Inside ok, nicely firm. Crossing "sinkhole" at top of couloir a bit tricky due to soft snow, after edge it firms up again.

On descent I sank partway, as around 12h snow in couloir so soft sinking over knees (and lost crampon somewhere).

Otherwise nice day. nasmeh
