I agree, for skiing you shouldn't be too early. For Jame not too late. Somehow we tried to combine 2 hard-to-combine things...

Today Grinta was also in the sign of skiers, as I was the only hiker among the total ten visitors today. From the cable car, where there was only one car, I start a bit after half past six and in ideal dry conditions to the bench, where snow suddenly starts. It's hard, I take my own path as deep footprints are tiring. Short stop at the saddle, steady pace to the summit where a cold southwest wind was blowing. I settle at the tried wind-sheltered spot where one could sit down comfortably. Under the 'roof' I stop briefly, meet a female hiker there, just below the top I spot a group of four coming out of the caves - I overtook them uphill a bit before Kok. saddle. Boot-packing started as the sun had no obstacles, but to the saddle it was still somehow manageable. Real torment was the descent to the forest as the sun had already done its job, even though it was just noon. So to Grinta (or elsewhere) with skis or early with headlamp to avoid trudging through rotten snow!

Tone, good thing you're a very experienced mountaineer and hiker. Some warn that Grinta's roof is very dangerous in case of slip or mistake. You can quickly take the shortcut to Taška. Careful and good luck!

Right, Lino! Despite the relatively gentle and long roof, in bad conditions there's slip risk. Many years ago a young athlete slipped to his death. I'll never forget. I was the last one to exchange a few words with him upon meeting.

I see that I messed up, so I ask the administrator if he can move the other part of the photos to where they belong. Thanks.

Beautiful, Tone. After conversations up here I assumed you might have gone up yesterday, but I didn't feel like it on the snow.

But I'm really enjoying it, which unfortunately disappears too quickly.

Today's Grintovec. Conditions excellent if you go early enough. Consolidated snow below Kokrško sedlo started around 1400m. Despite expectations, it held surprisingly well up to Kokrško sedlo; from Kokrško onwards, really nice morning concrete. In between, one section completely crusty. On the roof super, all the way to the last 100 vertical meters (or even less). Probably by then the sun or temperature had just enough transformed the crust. Like snapping fingers, postholing began. And not a little, once I had to dig my leg out with the ice axe . I reached the summit almost on all fours, those last postholing vertical meters really drained me. I started hiking at 04:30 and somehow I feel that if I'd started just half an hour later, I wouldn't have made it to the top. But that's all, otherwise I enjoyed immensely. On the way back below Kokrško, I was really sorry I didn't have a plastic shovel with me to slide down about 300 vertical meters on the back side. So now my pants are ruined. Oh, in the morning the sign was still upright, on return it was turned. What that means, I don't know.
