Zugspitze

Description of peak:
At 2962 metres, Zugspitze is the highest peak in the Wetterstein mountain group and the highest peak in Germany. The mountain is located south of Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the border between Austria (Tyrol) and Germany (Bavaria), with the Münchener Haus hut on the German side and the Panorama Gipfelrestaurant on the Austrian side. There are also three gondola lifts to the summit, which often lead to crowds. The eastern peak on which the cross stands is on the German side of the border. The Höllentalferner, Südliche Schneeferner and Nördliche Schneeferner glaciers are also located below the slopes of the summit. The latter is also the largest glacier in Germany with 8,4 hectares.
