Access to the starting point:
Take the Kočevje, where from the semaphorised junction continue in the direction of Šalka vas and Roga (Base 20). Before Kočevje ends, the signs for Lake Kočevje direct you to the left onto a side road, which takes you to a parking lot located by the lake.
Path description:
The following describes a circular route around the lake in an anti-clockwise direction.
From the parking lot, walk first to the lakeshore, where you will come out on a wide dirt path, and follow it to the right. At first we walk without any change in altitude, but then we quickly reach the main beach of the lake.
At the main lake beach, bear slightly right and climb slightly, passing a short distance from the shore (there are a few paths along the shore, which continue to be quite overgrown). The path continues along the edge of Šalka vas, where you pass the abandoned buildings of a former lignite mine, and the path slowly turns more to the left, and at crossroads you also follow the paths on the left. When the path turns to the north side of the lake, walk along the plantation "old fruit varieties - gene bank lake Kočevje", and after the plantation take the left path, which descends slightly and approaches the shore of Lake Rudnik. After a few minutes of walking on a dirt track, you will reach an asphalt road, which will take you to the parking lot where you started and where you will end the route described above.
The description and pictures refer to the situation in January 2020.
