Access to the starting point:
a) Leave the expressway through the Vipava Valley at the exit for Šempeter and Nova Gorica, then continue straight on from the nearby junction towards the industrial zone and Itali. A little further on, turn left towards Vrtojba and Mirno, and follow the signs for Miren, Komen and Opatje Selo. When the Miren settlement ends, there are some serpentine climbs up to the Karst plateau, and we follow the road to the Kostanjevica na Krasu settlement, where a macadam road branches off to the left at the beginning of the village, where the route described above begins. Park in a suitable place nearby.

Path description:
From the main road, follow the macadam path towards Lokvica and Cerje, and the road you are walking on descends gently at first. With the exception of a few bends, the path leads north-westwards, where you walk through karst countryside, occasionally spotting tunnels from the First World War along the way. Further on, the path to the left branches off where the Segeti camp was during the First World War, and we continue straight ahead along a wider macadam road. The path ahead leads us past a small marker, and then a path past the Ruska Cave joins us from the right.
From the crossroads onwards, the road climbs moderately, and when it is laid we reach Borojević's throne, where there are several memorials.
Just a little further on, the path to the cave Pečinka branches off to the left for about 5 minutes, and we continue straight ahead and follow the road to the next marked crossroads, from which we turn right onto the footpath towards Cerje. There is a short climb, and then the path is laid and we join the path on the left, which leads past the Pečinka cave. A short walk follows and you reach an asphalt road, which you follow to the right to a nearby parking lot.
From the parking lot, a moderate climb of 5 minutes along the road leads to the Cerje monument, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view.
Description and pictures refer to the situation in February 2020.
