Access to the starting point:
The famous Poetto Beach lies 5 kilometres east of the centre of Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, and is the easiest to reach by public transport.
Path description:
From Poetto Beach, walk along Viale del Poetto, turn left onto Via Vergine di Lluc, past Piazza San Bartolomeo, right onto Viale San Bartolomeo and left onto Viale Sant'Elia (largely skirting the hills to the south from the north). Soon we are close to the sea again, which we approach as closely as possible (any climb is still futile), until there is only a dirt road ahead, which starts to climb. Leave the road at the information boards, from which a footpath turns up the slope towards the lighthouse and the fortress. Follow the footpath to the ridge between the lighthouse and the fortress. On the ridge, with a magnificent view, turn towards the fortress, which is reached after a 10-minute walk.
From the fortress, return to the path leading to the lighthouse and after a few minutes' walk, the path branches off on the left side of the ridge. Follow this path down to the lower road, which continues downhill to the junction with Calamosca Street. At the crossroads, bear right. Follow the road straight ahead to its end, where the marked footpath to Sella del Diavolo begins. The path climbs steeply at first and then splits into two branches, the left one being the path to the lookout point on the right. The path then reaches several lookout points on Poetto beach. Towards the end of the trail, you first reach a hut and then an archaeological site, after which the trail ends.
