Sella del Diavolo (Devil's Saddle) is a hill southeast of the city of Cagliari (Sardinia, Italy) and the symbol of the city. Hill rises above the utmost beautiful beach called Poetto streching over 7 km in length. The starting point can be reached by public urban transport.
The name of the hill comes from the legend whose story goes like this ... One day the devil, fascinated by the beauty of the Gulf of Cagliari, seized it for himself. His plan was thwarted by God who sent his angels under the command of the Archangel Michael to battle. The battle took place in the sky above the bay. According to one version of the legend, Michael threw Lucifer off his horse. As this happened, the saddle fell down and formed a hill. According to another version of the legend, the devil fell to the ground and gave the hill its characteristic shape.The stretch of sea in front of the Sella del Diavolo is now called the Gulf of the Angels.
