Access to the starting point:
a) You arrive in Croatia via Border crossing Gruškovje / Macelj. Leave the motorway at the first exit and go in the direction of Varaždin. Along the way there are Trakoščan, Bednja, Lepoglava and you will arrive in Ivanec. In Ivanec, at the traffic light junction, turn right to the south (here the top of Ivanščice is right in front of you) and just keep going. The path begins to climb and leads to the village of Prigorec. Our route starts at the first crossroads on the right (for all other routes go left up through the village). There are a few parking places along the way, which are often occupied, the best choice is to drive to the top of Prigorec village where there is a huge parking lot and then descend through the village back to the first crossroads in the village.
b) From Prekmurje via Border crossing Petišovci / Murska Stredoce arrive in Croatia and continue driving through Čakovec and Varaždin, where you will turn in the direction of Ivanec. In Ivanec, at the traffic lights, turn left south and follow description a.
Path description:
At the first crossroads in the village of Prigorec, turn right and follow the asphalt road. Soon you will reach some meadows, where there are a few more parking places, and then the path goes into the woods, where it transitively lays down and later also descends for a short time. The way forward takes you past an interesting smooth wall and past the Žgano vino spring, where there is another large parking lot (about 20 minutes to get here).
At the parking lot, we leave the asphalt road and continue along the wider and more rugged cart track, which climbs. The path becomes steeper as it continues. The higher cart track takes a sharp left turn and we continue straight on to a narrower path which becomes even steeper (you can take the right path to avoid the slope, but then you will also bypass the spring). When the steepness subsides, we reach the Mrzljak spring, after which the path we are walking is named. After a short break, continue along the path as it turns north from the south and enters a spruce forest. The path continues past some interesting rocks and turns south again. The path follows the wooded cart track and climbs up some steps. The steep path climbs higher and leads to the crossroads Grob, where the paths from the south side of Ivanščice join.
From the crossroads, where the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is also located, we continue eastwards and walk along the sloping path. Soon you will reach the next point of interest, the "resting place" of Črne Mlaka, which is believed to be the home of witches.
The Black Mlaka itself is a small muddy lake that never dries up.
We continue towards the summit, and the path leads us eastwards, soon reaching the next resting place and the next crossroads, where we join a few more paths. A little further on, we reach the only less well-marked crossroads, where we go uphill.
A little higher up, we touch a road, and we go left along a waymarked path. There is a short climb and we reach the road again, but this time we continue along it to a mountain hut about 5 minutes away, from which we have only a minute's walk to the top of Ivanščice.
