Spodnja Idrija - Gradišče (above Spodnja Idrija) (via Trnje)

Access to the starting point:
From Ljubljana, we drive towards Idrija. When you reach Idrija, turn right at the second traffic lights towards Spodnja Idrija (4 km). At the beginning of Spodnja Idrija, before the bridge crossing the Idrijca River by the shop, turn right into the parking lot by the cultural centre (larger parking lot). Alternatively, cross the bridge, turn right and park right next to the main road (smaller parking lot).

Path description:
From the small parking lot by the main road and the bridge over the Idrijca River, follow the asphalt road towards Pustota. After two sharp bends, you reach a crossroads where a signpost for Pot v Trnje Street points to the left. To the left is hill Kopa, to the right a remnant of a marshy meadow with a small trestle.
There is a direction sign on the saddle between Kopa and Kazinski Griče. Continue to the right, past the hydro-centre Pečnik and a newer house, and shortly after it, turn left across the meadow to another newer house, and next to it, left again to cart track (above the track is a pajšt'ovje - a fruit drying rom with a shelter for harvesting flax), which leads on to the Trnovše homestead dating from 1798, built over in 1854. At that time the old portal was moved to the upper side, above the new entrance there is a niche for a statue of the Holy Family. A few metres above the homestead, you will see a direction sign and continue along cart track. After 5 minutes, at a left turn, you will come to a crossroads where you leave the track and go right onto a forest path. Higher up, pass an abandoned quarry where stone used to be quarried, and shortly afterwards turn right again along a faint path (you can also continue along a clearly visible path, it's a longer way), both paths lead you to a thick spruce tree.
From here we head up towards the ridge, where after a few metres of walking, at the end of the ridge, we can already see the Chapel of the Mother of God. Kapela Matere Božje (rebuilt in 2000 by Marjan Peternelj) stands on the shortest and oldest link between Spodnja Idrija and Ledine, in a straight line between the churches in Ledine and Spodnja Idrija. Take the leftmost left behind the chapel (also right or straight ahead would take both paths higher together) and climb steeply past the hayfield called Zgor in the gmajn to the Žorgovše homestead (a beautifully restored homestead, which is, however, lonely, with a nice viewpoint by the thick Lipa). Continue up the cart track past Pečniški malni (first mentioned in the 1318 Loška Urbarium), where there is a water reservoir. Just beside the cart track in front of the first waterhole is a brick resting chair.
The track still leads uphill, and when you reach a large meadow, turn left across the meadow and you will reach a tarmac road higher up. Here we turn left again along the road (right along the road would take us to Ledine), until we turn right along the marked cart track, when we are already at the foot of Gradišče. After a hundred metres walk, turn left again (marked track on the right). Follow cart track (see water reservoir on the top right) to a serpentine to the right and, after a few metres ahead, turn left onto a faintly visible track. Later, the path becomes more visible, always leading upwards. Just below the summit, a short steep climb and the Castle with the converter is ahead.
