Valburga - Smledniški hrib (Stari grad) (via Kalvarija)

Access to the starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Jesenice motorway, take the Vodice exit and then continue to Valburga, Smlednik, Zbilje and Medvode. When you arrive in Valburga, you will notice a sign for Stari grad, which directs you to the left onto the local road, which after a short slight climb to the signs for Kalvarija, which direct you to the left. Here is the starting point of our route. There are no suitable parking places at the starting point, so it is better to drive a little higher and park there in the marked parking lot. From the parking lot, it takes 5 minutes to get back to the starting point.

Path description:
From the starting point, follow the wide footpath in the route Kalvarija. The path first crosses to the left by a fence, then turns right and ascends to the first station of the Stations of the Cross. Continue in short ascents past the stations of the cross and after 10 minutes reach the top of Kalvarija, where you pass three crosses and climb up to a dirt road. Follow the road for some 10 m and then reach the "saddle on Kalvarija", where there are also some games. Here, bear slightly left onto a steep footpath, which first climbs a small flight of steps and then ascends a steep slope. The path soon levels out and leads to an overgrown ridge, from which the path soon turns slightly to the right onto a still overgrown slope. After a further short climb, leave the scrub and join a dirt road, which takes you in a few steps to the refreshment room on Smlednik hill.
From the refreshment room, continue along the well-maintained path, which ascends in a few steps to the restored Old Castle.
