Velenje (Stari trg) - Koželj

Access to the starting point:
a) From the Ljubljana - Maribor motorway, take the Žalec exit and then continue in the direction of Velenje. At the main roundabout (2nd roundabout) in Velenje, under the ski jump, continue straight on (2nd exit) in the direction Šoštanj - Mozirje.
Turn left at the traffic lights and then immediately right into the parking lot, where parking is free.
b) From Koroška, drive through Slovenj Gradec towards Velenje. At the main roundabout (1st roundabout) in Velenje, under the ski jump, turn right (1st exit) in the direction Šoštanj - Mozirje.
Turn left at the traffic lights and then immediately right into the parking lot, where parking is free.

Path description:
From the parking lot, walk back towards the roundabout under the ski jump along the parallel street through Stari trg.
The path takes you past a sign at Villa Bianca with a description of the local community of Staro Velenje. To the right of Villa Bianca, the path leads up the stairs to Velenje Castle. We continue straight ahead to the roundabout.
At the roundabout, take the 1st exit towards Polzela. Follow the road to the crossroads, where the sign for the Šaleška mountain trail directs you left up the road.
At the end of the asphalted road, turn right into the forest. A wide, steep forest path leads us over roots and steps to the ridge of Kožlja. A sign for the family and mountain trail points to the left.
The path to the right leads to Veliki Koželj (580 m).
Follow the wide path along the ridge. After about 15 minutes of walking, you will come to tables and benches and a locker with a registration book. Here you will have a wonderful view of Velenje Castle, the town of Velenje and the surrounding hills to the north and west.
The view of Uršlja Gora and Peca Mountain is particularly outstanding. Continue a few metres further to the highest point of Kožlja at 590 m. There is no view from the highest point because it is surrounded by trees.
