Access to the starting point:
a) First drive to Šoštanj (to get here from Velenje or Savinja Valley), then continue driving to Črna na Koroškem. The road then starts to climb towards the Spodnje Sleme Pass (1081 m), which is reached after a few kilometres of winding road. Then descend down the valley of the Javorski brook to Črna na Koroškem, where at the roundabout in the centre of the town (a roundabout in the middle of which there is a monument, a bus station and the parish church of St. Ožbalta nearby), turn right in the direction of Žerjava. Continue past the mining museum and then along the Mežiška valley towards Žerjav. In Žerjav, after the TAB MPI factory and after the Petrol station, cross the bridge over the Mež River, and immediately after the bridge we continue to the right on a slightly narrower asphalt road in the direction of Uršlja gora, Jazbina and Žerjava. The way ahead takes us past a small Mercator shop and a branch primary school, and then climbs only slightly along the valley of the Jazbina stream. When the Žerjav settlement ends, we arrive at a crossroads, where we park in a suitable place a few metres before the crossroads. From the crossroads, the road to Kristavčnik and the footpath to Naravski Lediny and Uršlja gora continue to the left, the road to Jazbina continues in a straight direction, the road to the Mrdavšič homestead continues in a lesser direction cart track, and the road to the right.
b) First drive to Ravne na Koroškem (to get here from Dravograd or Slovenj Gradec, then continue driving towards Mežica and Črna na Koroškem. When you reach Žerjav (Žerjav is a settlement between Mežica and Črna na Koroškem), just before the main road crosses the Meža River, turn left in the direction of Uršlja gora, Jazbina and Žerjava. The path continues past a small Mercator shop and a branch primary school, and then climbs only slightly along the valley of the Jazbina stream. When the Žerjav settlement ends, we arrive at a crossroads, where we park in a suitable place a few metres before the crossroads. From the crossroads, the road to Kristavčnik and the footpath to Naravski Lediny and Uršlja gora continue to the left, the road to Jazbina continues in a straight line, the road to the Mrdavšič homestead continues in a lesser direction cart track, and the road to the right.
Path description:
From the starting point, continue along the road on the left, which continues along the valley of the Jazbinski brook. After the small bridge, the road loses its asphalt coating (May 2014), and then you walk along the stream for about 15 minutes, arriving at a small crossroads. Signs for Naravske ledine and Uršlja gora direct us left onto a narrow macadam road, which starts to climb a little more visibly. The road continues past the Krstavčnik homestead and a few small cottages, then crosses a stream and begins to climb steeply behind it. In two serpentines the road climbs quite high above the stream, and then leads us past a hunting observation post to a marked crossroads, at which there is also a table and two benches.
From the crossroads, continue along the marked path on the right, which splits into two parts again a few 10 metres further on. Continue slightly right again (the fork is marked with an arrow on a tree), then climb slightly steeper through the forest. A few minutes higher, you reach an interesting little ridge that leads over two streams. The ridge, which is wooded on the right and slopes gently down to the nearby stream on the left, is soon abandoned as the path turns slightly to the right, where it climbs through the woods. After a short crossing, you reach a small valley and then follow it up to the edge of the forest, where there is a marked crossroads.
From the crossroads, continue right (left Prežihova bajta, Ravne na Koroškem and Prevalje), then follow the path along the edge of a large meadow and in 5 minutes you will arrive at the Cottage on the Naravski Lediny.
At the cottage, step onto the road, walk a few steps, and then the signs for Uršlja gora lead you right onto a meadow, over which you climb moderately. At the top edge of the meadow, cross the road leading from Naravski Lediny to Križan and the top of Uršlja gora and start climbing through the forest on the footpath. After a few minutes of cross-climbing, the path flattens out and gets quite close to the road. At the point where we get fully close to the road there are usually a few parked cars in good weather, but we continue to the left along cart track, which leads us just a little further out of the woods to a slightly larger meadow. Across the meadow, follow the waymarked path, which takes us higher into the forest, where we continue our ascent along a wide path. From the path, which climbs transversely, we get a transient view towards Pec, and then a relatively new or freshly graded logging trail (May 2014) joins us from the left. Following the relatively wide logging trail, we climb up to a nearby holiday home, where a waymarked path over Kozji hrbet joins us from the left. Continue straight up the wide and well-trodden path, which opens up some more views a little higher up, and then the path gradually lays down and leads us into a less-consolidated forest. At the part where the forest thins out, we come to a small crossroads where we take the left, slightly steeper path leading to the top of Uršlja gora (the right path bypasses the top and leads directly to the Church of St Ursula and the Home on Uršlji Gora). There is a short climb through sparse woods, and then the forest finally ends and, with beautiful views, we quickly reach the cross at the top of Plešivec or Uršlje Gora.
From the top, you can walk another 5 minutes to the nearby Church of St Ursula and the mountain home.
