Description of mountain:
Hribarska is located below the precipitous walls of Huda peč hill above the village of Solčava. Since there are no records of the glowworm, only this tale.
In the old days, there were fairy godmothers living there, but they could not hear the bell or the whistle. This was not known to the shepherds of Solčava, who were herding sheep according to the mountain pasture fraternities of the fairy.
One day, a young shepherd from Solčava again herded his master's sheep and cows on the frates around the cliff. But to avoid losing his cattle in the dark thickets, he tied a cowbell around each cattle's neck and whistled to the sheep when they stretched to far across the vast pastures. The cowbells rang, and the shepherd whistled and whistled, so that the fairies, hidden in a coil under the cliff, covered their ears and were angry that they would kill the shepherd if they could get him.
So the shepherd herded from day to day. One day, the most beautiful sheep of his flock went over the cliff, but she couldn't come back. She bleated and bleated, and the shepherd felt sorry for the sheep, so he climbed up the steep slope to the cliff to save her.
But no soner had he got close to the sheep, than angry fairies rushed out of the cliff, strangled him and threw him into the abyss, where he lay with his head smashed in among the boulders. The cattle and small livestock returned home alone in the evening.
The next day the Solčava went to the fratres to look for the shepherd. They called and whistled for him, but no one found him. Finally, the shepherd's master climbed up to the cliff, stopped in front of a bolt and whistled loudly, thinking that if the shepherd had fallen asleep in the cave, he would wake him up. But at his whistle, the dishevelled fairy godmothers rushed out of the spiral, pulled him to the top of the rock and plunged him into the abyss from below, so that he lay with his head smashed in, next to the slain shepherd.
The Solčava, who heard the terrified shouting in the valley, saw nothing on the cliff but a white mist and the lord who had fallen from the rock. They hastened to the crags and there found him and the shepherd, both with their heads smashed in, both dead.
Since then, the shepherds of Solčava have never grazed cows or sheep on this hill, which they have named "Huda stac". They prefer to graze elsewhere, where they can whistle to the sheep without all the worry, where cows with bells round their necks can go on whistling for three days....
