Description of peak:
Mirca (dialect Merca) is one of the peaks of the southern Karavanke mountain range with an altitude of 1025 m. It rises north above the centre of Jesenice, more precisely above the oldest part of the town called Murova, which lies at the foot of its southern slope. Various stories circulate among the older locals about Mirca. The most well-known is that the hill is full of water, as an underground cave with a large lake is said to be hidden beneath its surface. Some people say that fish have been seen in the springs of Mirca during heavi rains. In 1930, however, a huge rock broke off the steep southern slope and triggered a huge avalanche that destroyed three farmhouses in Murova on the way down to the valley. Fortunately, there were no casualties. 25 years before this event, in 1905, the red marble quarry (Trbice breccia) on the southern slope of Mirca was revived to serve the needs of the construction of the railway tunnel through the Karavanke Mountains. For this purpose, a narrow-gauge railway was also built from Mirka to Hrušice, on which an electric locomotive ran. The summit, which does not offer a view due to the forest, does not have a register. Some interesting views of the valley, the Ljubljana basin, Mežakla, and towards Kahlkogel can be enjoyed near one of the paths leading to the top of the hill.
